On January 8, 1954, Mrs. Alys E. Enders donated her beloved estate on Enders Island to the Society of St. Edmund, which is a Roman Catholic religious community of priests and brothers with a rich history of pastoral ministry, education, spiritual renewal, and social justice dating back to the 19th century France. Since that time, Enders Island has offered a respite for retreatants, residents, and visitors alike. This 11-acre island welcomes all to refresh their minds, hearts, and spirits along peaceful prayer walks, indoor and outdoor chapels, sacred art studios, and gathering places for fellowship – honoring Alys Enders’ wish for the Island to be preserved and to provide a home for religious and charitable purposes.
