Br. David Martins
Spiritual Director for the Enders Island Recovery Community
David Martins is the Associate Recovery Residence Director, and Spiritual Director to the Recovery Community on Enders Island, in Mystic, CT.
Upon graduating from High School, David entered the Seminary Program for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. During his years in Formation he completed a Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College, and also completed the four year program at the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence. He went on to Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD., where he studied Systematic Theology. He also attended the Institute of Priestly Formation (an Ignatian Spirituality program) at Creighton University. He holds a Masters Degree in Pastoral Theology from Saint Joseph College in Maine.
As a person in recovery himself, David has worked in the field professionally in a variety of roles. In the Family Care Community Partnership he specialized in addiction recovery in his dealings with at risk youth and their families. In 2015 he accepted the role of Executive Director for RICARES, the Recovery Community Organization in the State of Rhode Island. He also sat on the planning committee for the Rhode Island Rally for Recovery for three years, while also serving as a planning partner for National Recovery Month at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Most recently prior to his work at Enders Island, he was the founding manager of the Jim Gillen Teen Center, a Recovery Community Center for teenagers in Providence, RI.
