The Seawall Project
Become Part of the Story
The Seawall surrounding Enders Island was completed in 1942 in the wake of the 1938 hurricane. Originally, the seawall was as high as sixteen feet in some places, to prevent over wash and the erosion of Mrs. Enders’ beautiful grounds. Since that time, the seawall has withstood decades of buffeting and turbulent waves—a visible analogy for the ministry of Enders Island— protecting the Island from the ravages of tides and the sea’s fury. So too, our ministry helps protect the lives of many from the turbulence and storms they encounter throughout their lives; offering them the safe harbor of healing and hope.
Invest in the Future
Your purchase of a share in our seawall helps us fund this much-needed restoration. Fortifying the seawall not only benefits St. Edmund’s Retreat, it helps protect Mason’s Island and the mouth of the Mystic River; it helps preserve the unmatched beauty and serenity of Enders Island and ensures that this local treasure remains safe and publicly available to the people of southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island for generations to come.
Purchase a Share in the Seawall and Leave Your Mark
Each donation of $2,500 or more will be perpetually commemorated on a bronze plaque in a very special Shareholder’s Prayer & Recognition Garden. Each share is equivalent to roughly one foot of the seawall, which measures 750 feet in length. You can donate online or send a check made payable to St. Edmund’s Retreat, PO Box 399, Mystic, CT 06355. Please be sure to note “seawall” on your check!
