In the Byzantine icon workshop students learn safe handling of pigments while mixing paint. Good practices are essential to the artist and is a must when handling dry mineral pigment material.
In keeping of the sacred art of iconography, skills of the master have been passed down to the icon student. Age old and new techniques taught to students are skills developed by diligence. The techniques taught through a direct lineage of icon painters are an ancient practice, and are the key elements in iconography.
While the icon has survived ages of hight and defeat the art prevails today as a lamp of light. Iconographers become place keepers for the next generation, and importantly as Christian artists we pass the tradition of icon writing down to the next generation in order for the art of the Gospel to remain a living tradition.
