As we enter the new year, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the many members of our community who have contributed their time, talents and financial support to Enders Island in 2018. Our mission is made possible through your generous and unfailing support, and for that I am so very grateful.
Your generosity makes way for miracles to happen on Enders Island. This is especially true for the young men in our Recovery Residence Community, who are able to rebuild their lives within the stability of a supportive community during a time when they are most in need of our love and support. We were very pleased that two of our guys, Dave and Matt, who left for Texas Tech University this fall, visited us during their Christmas break. They’re doing extremely well and are looking forward to helping Brendan, one of their Enders brothers in recovery, transition to Texas Tech as he enters the winter term there.
With your help, seeds are planted here that bear fruit not only in the lives of each of our young men, but in the many lives they touch. You are helping us fight the crisis of alcohol and opioid addiction one person at a time, and the impact is astounding.
The longer I am in ministry, the more conscious I am that for many people Christmas and its aftermath can be very difficult. Our Bereavement Retreat - held the week before Christmas - was the most highly attended in our history, perhaps for that reason. If you are struggling with grief, loss of hope or simply the challenges of daily living, I encourage you to make time in your life to reach out – if I can be of help, please call.
Retreats give us a quiet time away from the activities, the stresses and strains of our lives. They are an opportunity to quiet down so that we can be in the presence of God and focus on our friendship and intimacy with Him. Our 2019 Program Guide will soon be available to download online; if you would like to request a printed copy, simply call our office at (860) 536-0565.
Finally, I would like to remind you that our first festive event of the season, the 5th Annual Gourmet Game Dinner, will take place on Friday, February 1, at 6:30 pm. We’re busy planning an amazing feast and evening of fun. I hope you will join us. Tickets can be purchased online or call our office. All proceeds will support our ministries
May God continue to enable us to be instruments of His transformative love. Peace and blessings to you and your loved ones in this coming New Year!
In faith and hope,
