Dear Friends, Throughout history, when plagues and pandemics have descended upon us, people have turned to prayer to ask God for deliverance and healing. In that spirit, I invite you to join me and the Enders Island Community for a time of prayer for all those affected by the Coronavirus during our weekly Holy Hour in the Chapel of Our Lady on Monday, March 16th at 7:00 pm.
The health and safety of the Enders Island Community, visitors and retreatants is my greatest priority. Today, I write to share what we’re doing to go above and beyond our standard measures to maintain a sanitary environment.
We are closely following the guidance of local, national and global health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Diocese of Norwich. Here are some of the proactive steps we are taking:
The Chapel of Our Lady, including all pews, will be disinfected regularly throughout the week, with special focus before and after Sunday Mass.
As we have since the beginning of the flu season, we are following instructions promulgated by the Bishop of Norwich. During Mass, shaking hands after the Sign of Peace has been suspended, and for the duration of the Coronavirus threat, distribution of the Precious Blood will also be suspended. The preferred method of receiving the Host is in the hand. Additionally, the holy water bowl has been temporarily removed from the Chapel.
All kitchen and food service areas, bathrooms, and meeting rooms are disinfected and sanitized daily.
All kitchen, serving and housekeeping staff wear rubber gloves while performing their jobs and all staff and visitors will be encouraged to wash their hands thoroughly while on the Island.
We are suspending our weekly Fish Fry until Good Friday, April 10th. Stations of the Cross will still be held at 6:00 pm each Friday during Lent. Tomorrow's Fish Fry will be take-out only.
Our Sober St. Patrick's Day celebration has been rescheduled to coincide with the Mystic Irish Parade which has been postponed until October 25th.
As you focus on the health of you and your family, we will keep you in our prayers, as we ask that you keep the Enders Island Community in yours.
In faith and hope,
