    • What is a Private Retreat?
      • A Private Retreat allows you to gain a new perspective on one's spiritual life and the duties/responsibilities of daily living. It usually takes place in an environment of quiet reflection, without the interruptions of phones and TVs. Mobile devices (or anything that would disturb the general atmosphere of quiet) are discouraged. There are various types of Retreats, but all are designed to have a positive effect on the participating individual or group.
    • How much does it cost?
      • Our rates for a Private Retreat begin at $150 per night for a private room or $120 per night (per person) for a shared room. This includes three meals a day for the duration of your stay. Learn More.
    • What is a Directed Retreat?
      • Individual Directed Retreats depend upon the availability of our Spiritual Directors. Please call the Programs Office for availability at 860.536.0565.
    • What is a Silent Retreat?
      • A Silent Retreat takes place when an individual or group enters into prayerful silence during their stay. This spirit of quiet is encouraged so that participants may be free from the social pressures of conversation and can focus on their inner spiritual journey. Other than times spent with a Retreat Leader or Spiritual Director, or during prayer or worship, individuals commit themselves to a spirit of quiet. All meals are taken in a silent dining room.
    • MAY I STAY ON ENDERS ISLAND EVEN IF I DO NOT ATTEND A RETREAT OF WORKSHOP?
      • Overnight accommodations are available only for participants in our retreats, workshops, and other programs and events at St. Edmund’s Retreat, for the sole purpose of providing access to ministries that support recovery, healing, and spiritual renewal through rediscovering or deepening a relationship with God. For those who wish to enjoy the natural beauty of southeastern Connecticut as a tourist or adventurer, the Mystic area has charming bed and breakfast lodging, wonderful hotels, and other more suitable accommodations.
    • Can you accommodate my food allergy or dietary restrictions?
      • Yes, our Kitchen Staff is able to accommodate most food allergies, concerns, and/or dietary restrictions. Please let us know, prior to your arrival, so we can prepare for your visit. In some cases, there may be a small, additional charge to cover the cost of specialized products, if required.
    • What do I need to bring to St. Edmund’s Retreat?
      • You’ll want to bring your own toiletries and other personal items. Please keep in mind that we are on an island, so be prepared to bring clothing appropriate for a wide range of weather. In the summer, you may want to bring sunscreen and insect repellent. Bedrooms have linens and blankets, towels, and washcloths. We recommend you bring a small fan, as the rooms are not air-conditioned.
    • How do I get to Enders Island?
      • • From New Haven: Take I-95 to Exit 90 (Olde Mystick Village and Mystic Aquarium exit). Bear right onto Route 27, passing the Mystic Seaport. Turn left at the end of the road onto Route 1. Turn right at the first traffic light, and then bear left at all the forks on Mason's Island.

        • From Providence: Traveling I-95 South, take Exit 90 (the Mystic-Old Mystic exit). Make a left turn onto Route 27, passing the Mystic Seaport. Turn left at the end of the road onto Route 1. Turn right at the first traffic light, and then bear left at all the forks on Mason's Island.

        • From the Mystic Train Station: Contact Yellow Cab at 860.443.4321. The cost of a ticket from the Train Station to Enders Island is roughly $10 - $15. Cabs are normally available at the station to meet trains during the summer but are not always immediately available on busy days or during the off-season. We recommend calling ahead to reserve a ride.

    • WHY DO I ENCOUNTER A GATEHOUSE WHEN I GET CLOSE TO ENDERS ISLAND?
      • Enders Island is a small island off a slightly larger island, called Mason's Island. Our guests use the private roads of Mason's Islands and pass private homes. Mason's Island residents, including children, pets, and wildlife, enjoy peace and quiet in the area without being mindful of traffic. Keep them all safe. Obey all traffic signs. Stop fully at stop signs. Abide by the speed limit, which is 20mph at most. Be sure to give right-of-way to others. Please treat them with the same warmth and care you extend to us when you visit.
    • DRIVING TO ENDERS ISLAND?
      • To visit Enders Island, you must pass across Mason's Island, which is a quiet community of lovely neighbors who cycle and jog along quaint pathways, play with their children adjacent to roads, and walk their dogs at all hours of the day and night. When crossing Masons Island, you are guests on private roads with private homes. Please take care to obey all traffic signs and to drive carefully to and from Enders Island.

We ask all visitors to Enders Island to obey the posted speed limit of 20mph, come to a complete stop at all stop signs, and be watchful of children and adults walking, running, or bicycling (some with pets) along the roads.
    • STAY OFF THE ROCKS
      • Enders Island is connected to Mason's Island by a causeway and is surrounded by a sea wall both of which are comprised of rocks. Please do not climb on the rocks. The rocks can be slippery even when not wet. They do not offer secure footing. Do not permit children or pets to venture onto the rocks even with supervision. There is a small sandy beach near our causeway for those inclined to dip their toes in the sea.
    • Attention Dog Owners
      • Please keep your dogs on a leash at all times and out of the planting/gardens while visiting Enders Island. We and our neighbors on Mason's Island take great pride in the natural beauty of God’s Creation. Please be conscientious about cleaning up after your pet.
    • Is there a ferry to Enders Island?
      • No. The only way to arrive at Enders Island is by vehicle – it’s located just off the mainland and accessible by a small causeway.
    • What is your address?
      • • If you are sending a check, letter, or small package, our mailing address is: PO Box 399, Mystic, CT 06355.
        • To navigate to Enders Island, please use: 1 Enders Island, Mystic, CT 06355.
•For older GPS systems, use: 99 Yacht Club Rd, Mystic CT 06355.
    • Is St. Edmund’s handicapped accessible?
      • Several buildings have ground-floor accommodations, but full-handicapped access is planned for future renovation. Please call if you have specific concerns.
    • Are your facilities only for other Catholic organizations?
      • We serve as an interfaith retreat and recovery center. All faiths are welcome – especially those whose character does not conflict with our own.
    • Can I have my Baptism/Wedding/Funeral?
      • We are not a parish — therefore we do not offer Baptisms, Marriages, or Funeral services. These liturgical celebrations rightly belong in your home parish. We provide an atmosphere of quiet reflection for our guests.

    • DO I NEED TO BE CATHOLIC TO VISIT ENDERS ISLAND?
      • All are welcome to visit Enders Island. We are delighted to share our home with you. In keeping with the centuries of Catholic tradition, we welcome each person as a precious child of God, regardless of wealth, status, influence, race, national origin, native language, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristic protected by law. As guests of our private and prayerful Community, we do ask all guests who choose to visit to abide by practices established for all visitors in keeping with Catholic beliefs and traditions.

    • CAN I BRING MY OWN ALCOHOL OR SMOKE ON ENDERS ISLAND?
      • Enders Island is dedicated to recovery from addiction and, therefore, "a dry island." We do not serve alcoholic beverages, and we require that guests do not bring alcohol, drugs, or weapons to the Island.

Occasionally, you may come upon private events that, by prior authorization, serve limited alcoholic beverages only to those attendees. No smoking, vaping, or use of electronic cigarettes is permitted inside any building. Smoking of tobacco is permitted in designated areas outside of buildings.
