Spring Day of Recollection
Time & Location
Directed by Fr. W. Demetri Belsito
Do you feel stagnant or stuck in your spiritual walk? Have you lost your ‘first love?’ How do you know if you are growing spiritually? How does one become a “mature Christian?” Saint Peter said “through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.(2 Peter 1:4). How do we become “partakers of the divine nature,” or more ‘Christ-like?” Saint Peter also said “like newborn babies crave pure spiritual milk, growing up in your salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2). We are baptized, in the church, but still feel something is missing. That something is growing spiritually through grace. This is often called divinization, “theosis,” or sanctification by some. We can become by grace what God is by nature. This is not a farfetched idea but something Jesus stated in the Gospels and the saints have reiterated through the last 2000 years. "God became man so that man might become a god." (cf. St. Athanasius, De Incarnatione or On the Incarnation 54:3, PG 25:192B; also Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 460)
We can all have “dry patches” in our walk with God. Come to learn some basic tools on how to grow spiritually. How to re-energize and re-connect with God, self, and others. This Day of Reflection will focus on how one can grow spiritually. Like a tree that is pruned in order to grow better, we have tools passed down from the Saints and Scripture that enable to us to grow spiritually. Come and be ready to be transformed!
