About

Join chant instructor John Brodeur for an exciting and engaging introduction to Gregorian Chant: its history, theology, and practice in the life of the Church. In this power-packed seminar, John will provide a primer on what makes Gregorian Chant such a unique form of music and why the Church has always spoken of this music as "her own". Designed for both the professional musician and the musically-challenged, this balanced presentation rises above the "liturgy war" debate to explore how singing and listening to Gregorian Chant could actually deepen and enrich your spiritual life. The seminar will conclude with time for Q&A. Light refreshments will be provided.

John Brodeur is a native of Westerly, RI and a graduate from Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH where he studied Theology and Sacred Music with a concentration in voice. John is also a lifelong cantor and church musician with many years' experience as a choir director in both forms of the Roman Rite. In 2011, John was appointed the Student of Head of Music Ministry and served as a key player in implementing the new translation of the Roman Missal. He has given presentations in a variety of venues including the 8th Annual Colloquium of the Gregorian Institute of Canada in 2013. His article entitled ""A Song for the Nations: The Davidic Covenant and the Music of the Temple"" was published in the Winter 2012 volume of Sacred Music magazine.  Today, John serves as a professional cantor at Saint Mary Church in the Stonington Borough and teaches at the Sacred Art Institute on Enders Island.
