Learn the ancient Ukranian tradition of Pysanky. Your instructor will be Lisa Schipritt. She has been teaching people how to make these beautiful eggs for over 20 years. This is a beginner class and you will be using a kistka, beeswax, aniline dyes a pattern and a chicken egg. You will go home with a beautiful masterpiece. Please bring a container with you to take your masterpiece home safely.
A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write", as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.
The afternoon begins with a hot lunch served in the dining of the Enders House, an early 20th century arts and crafts style mansion and the oldest structure on the island. The workshop begins immediately following.
