Description:

In his role as rabbi, my painting depicts Jesus offering prayers to the Father using incense (most likely Frankincense), which was a tradition in the ancient Temple.  The incense gives symbolic meaning to prayer as it ascends toward heaven and is used today in Catholic liturgy to bless and consecrate.  But here it also pre-figures Jesus' own death and burial, where his body was laid in the tomb after being prepared with precious oils and spices.
